Social Opportunities

A Retirement Community for Active Adults

They say you can’t choose your family, but you can choose your family of friends. Life here brings every resident many social opportunities to make new friends who share your common interests. Whether it’s gardening, art, music, history, nature, or woodworking — RiverWoods Manchester is a neighborhood full of people passionate about living their best life.

Organized Outings

We provide transportation for our residents to take a variety of outings and trips each month. From Manchester’s Currier Museum and Palace Theatre to Strawbery Banke and harbor cruises out of Portsmouth, there’s always something fun to do with friends at RiverWoods Manchester!

We also offer monthly dining-out opportunities to our residents, with transportation, to local restaurants, taverns, and wineries.

We benefit from living at RiverWoods Manchester.

We signed up for a lot of the trips immediately after moving in. There were things we’d always wanted to do, but never got around to it – trips like visiting the State House in Concord and the Culinary School at Southern New Hampshire University.

Casual Gatherings

There’s never a lack of activity at RiverWoods Manchester! Stop by one of our sun porches on a weekday morning, and you’ll find a group gathered over shared interests.

  • In our Music Room, you’ll often find folks improvising classical or rag-time tunes with a variety of instruments.
  • In our Art Room, residents who love to paint will often gather to enjoy the morning light.
  • Love to golf? Check out the weekly putting tournament or join a foursome at one of several local golf courses.

From card games in the Nook, to walking groups enjoying the beauty that is the RiverWoods Manchester campus, you’ll always find someone to spend time with.

Shared Interests

Moving to RiverWoods Manchester doesn’t mean giving up your hobbies! Most residents comment that they became more active physically and socially after moving here.

If you love to build, visit the Woodworking Shop, a utility room stocked with a full complement of wood-working equipment so you can finally build that coffee table or finish the dollhouse for your grandkids.

Our raised Garden Beds offer a communal space to dig in the dirt and watch things grow.

Love to read? We have a beautifully stocked library that is run, organized and staffed on a volunteer basis by our residents. It’s a perfect place to find your next read or meet up with other book lovers.

Avid word-smiths and journalists find a creative outlet writing and producing our monthly newsletter, and our ELF Committee (Exploration, Learning, and Fun) is made up of residents who work together to bring on-site concerts, lectures, and other engaging and entertaining events to the community.

RiverWoods Manchester even has two retail stores right on campus! Both organized, stocked, and staffed by residents for residents. Terrace Treasures offers pre-owned items a second home, and the Country Store provides our community with quick and easy access to convenience items, basic groceries and canned goods, candy, stationery, and gifts.

I’ve volunteered for the last nine years

at the Currier Museum, giving tours of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Zimmerman House.

Active Volunteers

Life at RiverWoods Manchester means time to do the things you feel are most important. For many of our residents, that means the ability to volunteer their time on behalf of charities or other local non-profits.

Many volunteer in a variety of ways throughout the larger Manchester area; as docents for The Currier Museum, ushers for The Palace Theater, or in an innovative pen pal program with a local elementary school. Other volunteer opportunities available to our residents include:

  • Annual Fundraiser Residents select a charity each year and coordinate various fundraising activities and events to raise money on their behalf.
  • Knitter’s Group Residents meet monthly and donate items they’ve made to local charities throughout the year.
  • Pen Pals RiverWoods Manchester residents team up with 3rd graders at St. Benedict’s Academy in Manchester. Residents and students get together a few times during the academic year, and exchange letters on a monthly basis.
  • Walk to End Alzheimer’s Staff and residents join forces for this event held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

There’s always something fun going on at RiverWoods Manchester!
